The Rebels drew the Big Island’s Pueo in the opener and lost in the final at bat of the game. The top division “2” team on the Big Island ran up the second best won loss record in the league season at 27 and 9 – just one loss more than Ku’ihaki’s 27 and 8 record.
After posting a 17 to 15 lead through 5 innings the Rebels surrendered 3 costly runs in the bottom of the 6th and final open inning. The loss spoiled a power packed 5 home run, 1 triple and 4 double Rebel hitting display. The Rebels outhit Pueo 23 to 22, led by outfielder Mark Koehler’s impressive 3 for 3 day at the plate with 2 doubles, a triple and a run scoring sacrifice.
Four Rebels were 3 for 4 including J Robertson, Joed McCluskey, Clay Carvalho and Kit Alderete. Carvalho crushed 2 home runs in the expansive park, while solo round-trippers were turned in by Robertson, Lambert Alapai, and Russ McCluskey.
